My good friend Roni allowed me to host an afternoon tea to celebrate the impending arrival of baby number 2. We ran with the babushka theme (because they are so darn adorable) and decided to attempt a sophisticated high tea. I jumped at the opportunity to do some baking and practice my cake decorating skills. I also popped my hand up for a few extra chores including decorating and favour making. The process was quite drawn out due to us both having toddlers under our feet, but the planning was worth it. A lovely relaxing afternoon tea was had by all (except my hubby, who was shooed away with the toddler – more on that another day).
Here are some pictures. I’ll list some details underneath.
All the food was made by Roni and myself.
Savory: Lettuce alone sandwiches, egg sandwiches, zucchini & corn egg tarts
Sweet: Macarons, chocolate dipped strawberries, banana bread
Cake: Caramel, choc and butter cake with fondant and a white choc butter cream lining. I made the babushka out of fondant and painted the face with food colour gels.
Beverages: We had freshly ground plunger coffee, tea and I used The Rabbit Hole Berry Bomb as a base for a tea cocktail, adding a small amount of sugar syrup, extra berries, lemon and mint to garnish. Very refreshing on a spring afternoon.
Favours: I sewed tea wallets for each guest and Roni attached a hand written thank you note.
Decorations: DIY pom poms (tutorial here)
Soundtrack: Stardust radio
Guest management: Anyvite.com (in my opinion, waaaay better than facebook events or evite)
